Think BLUE AND GOLD for Timmins’ 100th Anniversary!
During the week of August 6, 2012, anniversary celebrations will be ongoing throughout the City. To celebrate the City’s 100th anniversary, horticultural and agricultural organizations, residents and businesses are encouraged to plant flowers/flower beds that are blue and gold to coincide with the City’s colours and showcase our community pride. As the weather gets nicer, start planning now for that special blue and gold flower bed! The Timmins Daily Press will feature selected “blue and gold gardens” on their front page as part of the Gardens of Summer feature.

Skating Oval a Great Success
Spring is in the air so I thought I would take a minute to write this letter before the 2011 – 2012 winter is no longer “top of mind.” On behalf of the City of Timmins, Tourism Timmins, the 100th Community Anniversary Committee, the City’s hospitality industry, the retail sector and the residents and visitors to Timmins, I want to extend a heartfelt thanks to JP Legault for leading the Oval Skating Rink Project. This project has been extremely well received by the thousands who have enjoyed this new outdoor recreational opportunity. To see so many enjoy Hollinger Park during the off season was a welcomed site.

A former Schumacher native, Tom Laughren, Mayor of Timmins, will be proclaiming March 1st & 2nd MR. SCHUMACHER DAYS to officially kick off the 100th anniversary of Schumacher. The proclamation ceremony will take place in the Mayor’s Office on Tuesday February 21st at 10:30 am with members from the community of Schumacher in attendance.

Porcupine Winter Carnival
The 27th-annual Porcupine/South Porcupine Winter Carnival is expected to draw thousands of participants out from their winter hibernation.
The carnival runs from Feb. 10 to 12. This year’s theme is a Winter Wonderland.
Our opening ceremonies will take place at Roland Michener Secondary School beginning at 6 p.m. where TD Bank will crown a prince and princess.
